I was lead to the
book of Zechariah this morning. I must admit, that this book is not one that I
frequent often. Actually, I can’t recall the last time that I read from
Zechariah. Although, I have not
personally been attentive to this book, doesn’t make it of less effect.
2Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good
works.
This verse fits
perfectly the theme of this post, and what I just said. Paul wrote that All Scripture, not some scripture, or
even certain scripture, but All Scripture is given by inspiration of God. That
includes the book of Zechariah.
The verse that I
want to show you is found in the seventh chapter, and the ninth verse.
Zechariah 7:9 Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts,
saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his
brother:
This is a very
powerful verse. What makes it so powerful is the Father is saying this, through
the prophet Zechariah. Can
I go back a couple verses, and show you something? I find it very interesting the people
whom Zechariah is sent to give this Word from Father. Zechariah 7:4-5 Then came the word of the LORD of hosts unto me, saying, 5 Speak unto all the people of the
land, and to the priests, saying,…….
Speak
to all the people of the land. I have no idea how many people there was in the land. I do know that Father didn’t want to
exclude anybody. He even said: And while you are speaking don’t forget to
include the priests. They need to hear these words as well.
The only way that
we can execute true judgment, is to know the Word of God. We need something to
base our standards upon, and nothing is more important, than the way that
Father sees things. How do we do
this? What is the right way to
accomplish this command? Hold
on!! Who said anything about this being a command?
Father commanded
that we live in this manner!! David gives us a great way to keep this command
also. Psalms 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth
he meditate day and night. Psalms 119:48
My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have
loved; and I will meditate in thy statutes.
Here David is
giving us the right, or proper attitude, that we should have in dealing, with
the Lord. Father honors us when we come to Him with praise, for the things
which He gives us. Father told us everything that we need to know to live an
acceptable life to Him, in His Word. We couldn’t accept His way, so He gives us
an example, in which to base our lives upon.
Things are no
different today, than they were back then. Do you know which ground that
Fathers Words fell on? Zechariah
7:11 But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the
shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear. Nowhere in this chapter does it pinpoint the group that acted in
this way. I am left to assume that all the people, and all the priest acted in
this manner. I don’t know what you gather from this verse, but I see how they
were offended, by the Word of God!!
They were throwing
a fit, about what Zechariah said, and I didn’t even finish posting what that he
really said!! Take a look at this: Zechariah 7:9-10 Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and
shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother: 10 And oppress not the widow, nor the
fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil
against his brother in your heart.
The Words that
Father spoke, through the prophet Zechariah, were nothing more, than how we
should treat each other. They knew that they were not living right, and certainly
not acting right. Why would they act in that way? the best way that I can explain this is like
this. They were under the knife of the Great Physician, and He never allows any
anesthesia. Hebrews
4:12 For the word of God is
quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the
dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is
a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The last three
verses complete this story. It is no different today in our lives. We don’t
like to be operated on by Dr. Jesus. It hurts, and is uncomfortable while the
sword is cutting. However, as we will find in these last three verses we are
better off to repent, and live another day.
Zechariah 7:12-14 Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should
hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by
the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts. 13
Therefore it is come to pass, that as he
cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the
LORD of hosts: 14 But I scattered
them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land
was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid
the pleasant land desolate.
That is something
to think about. Ain’t God good?
……Much Love
