Police Officer Shot At Man 8 Times

Police Officer Shot At Man 8 Times

Officers Responded To Sherwood Forest Neighborhood Shooting Tuesday Morning

POSTED: Tuesday, December 21, 2010
UPDATED: 8:41 am EST December 21, 2010
Police were called to Lem Turner Road and Trout River Boulevard early Tuesday morning because of a police-involved shooting.Jacksonville Sheriff''s Office Chief John Hartley said deputies tried to pull over a maroon Garnet Chevy Monte Carlo (license plate number 449JLL) due to suspicious activity, but the vehicle fled, which started a chase into the Sherwood neighborhood. The driver went through two homeowners' yards and then backed into a JSO cruiser. The chase ended at corner of Greenleaf and Doncaster Avenue, in the front yard of a home. The driver got out of the car and ran from officers. Officers yelled at him to stop, but he didn't. Officer A.J. Givens said he saw something metallic at the man's waistband as the man was reaching for that area, so they gave more commands to stop. When he didn't stop, Givens fired eight times, said Hartley. The man was shot in the lower back and was taken to Shands Hospital in critical but stable condition. Police did not find a gun, but did find drugs. Police said he was shot at eight times, but only hit twice. Hartley said the gun was fired so many times because they are trained to shoot until no longer threatened.Sibbald Road and Doncaster Avenue were closed because of the shooting.

more of the Christmas cheer that we all love to read about!!         you could take this story, and view it in different ways. from the officers perspective, from the assailants perspective, or how about this one from the mother of the assailants perspective.
i would imagine that this man that tried to out run the J.S.O was too stupid to realize that they had real bulletts in those guns. he probably never saw the news about how compliant the J.S.O. are to shoot you. he probably still don't realize how fortunate he is to be alive today!!
his mother does though. she is very grateful this morning that only two bullets hit him in the back, as he was running away. now her head is filled with hopes, and dreams for the possibility of her sons new life. i bet that she has already called Johnnie Cochran in on the case, just to find out that he has already passed.
her hopes, and dreams are on her little stupid boy, and the fact that he will win a lawsuit, because he was half-retarded, and didn't know better. those weren't his drugs in his possession. he was just holding on to them for a friend that he refuses to name. he simply got caught up in the system that seems to target his kind.
if he wins the lawsuit all his troubles will be over, and so will her's. he will get enough money to not be out on the streets peddling drugs anymore. he will step up to the point of a main supplier, showing no income, and milking the system for all that it's worth to him.
this scenario is not that far of a stretch in today's world that we live in. it could come true in just a couple years time.

now,..........i have a problem believing that the officer only fired his weapon at this man eight times. i also have a problem with the fact that he only hit him twice. reports from the neighborhood stated that more than eight shots were heard. they just thought that the thugs were shooting at each other. this is a common occurrence to them.
i know that the mother of this half-retarded thug loved him, because he was her child. let's say that the officer had of been a better shot, and he had aimed a little higher than he did, and he completed a valid head shot. things would have been much different today.
the mother, and her friends would have swarmed city hall this morning wanting to know why her baby had to die. they would have attracted all kinds of media in their protest. there would have been much tears in the interviews with them,................and it would have been over!!
no more poor boy that moved up in to the status of a rich thug milking the system of everything that it's worth. no hospital bills paid by the city to assure that this man received the best possible health care. no media visiting him trying to glamorize his shooting, and agreeing with him how wrong they were to shoot him. no long lengthy trial for the state to bare the burden of the cost. which we all know that price trickles down to us eventually.

hummm................was this man's life really worth the burden that he will cause us in the long run?  would it have just been better to have shot him in the head, and ended it all right then and there?............i simply don't know!!
i have made some drastically horrible mistakes in my life, and you never know which one will turn you around. there is always hope for you as long as your breathing, and this guy has got a second chance to do something with his life. he has the power in his hands to receive whatever punishment that the state determines is fair for his crime, and turn his life around.
I'm not sure that giving our life up because of doing something stupid is the answer that we are looking for here. I'm not sure that going to prison is the right answer either. i believed that this man's life should be made a living hell by the state. he should have to enroll in all different kinds of programs, and complete every one of them to the satisfaction of the state. he should have to pay his own way in each of these programs, and not being employees is not an acceptable excuse. he could work for the state during these hard times to pay his way!!
he should be placed on probation, and drug tested twice a week at random times, and have to report at least once every week. i know that this sounds extreme, but i believe in giving a man a chance. he might opt to go to prison instead of doing all these things in order to correct his life. if he does,.........then i believe the officer should have aimed higher, and just got it over with.
i'm sure that the officer thought about it. he was probably trying to weigh the value of this man's life, as he was shooting his weapon. it would have been so easy to go for the kill shot. the truth is that it ended like it did, because of the Grace of God covering that man's life. i only hope that he realizes that today when he woke up alive!!

                                             ...............much love
